Mount Gamalama, the volcano that forms the entire island of Ternate in the Malukus erupted late on Thursday. The airport has closed because the ash can problems in the planes, as well as making it hard to see as the planes land. As long as there are no more eruptions, the airport can reopen on Saturday, but the volcano is still spewing ash, sending up plumes as high as 600 meters. Eleven hikers were at the volcano when it erupted, and all were injured running down the slope. Three are being hospitalized for broken bones.
Pray that this eruption will allow Christian workers in Ternate more opportunities to share the Gospel.
