A week ago Tuesday, there was a Muslim-Christian conference discussing religious freedom and peaceful coexistence between the two groups in Surabaya. In the middle of the conference that afternoon, a group from the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) stormed the group. They interrupted the activities and threatened every participant, despite the fact that they had the right permits to have the gathering. As has happened (or not happened) in other similar situations, the police did nothing. Before the meeting, police warned the organizers to cancel it because the issues were too sensitive. The police cancelled the permits on the day of the conference.
Pray that despite much opposition from FPI and the police, Muslim-Christian relations will improve, and Christians will have opportunities to share the love of Jesus as a result.
