For the last two weeks, 265 fires have been burning in peat swamp forests and plantations of the province of Riau, Sumatra. The consensus is that the fires were started by companies using slash and burn techniques to make new fields. These fires have caused horrible air pollution throughout Southeast Asia, already causing one woman to die in Malaysia. In the city of Dumai, dozens of houses have burned down, and a leopard ran into the village that took hours to capture. As of Monday, 69 of the fires had been extinguished.
Pray for firefighters both on the ground and in the air as they try to extinguish these fires. Lift up Christian workers who now have unique opportunities to minister and share Christ because of the fires.
