With Indonesia’s presidential elections less than a week away, both Prabowo Subianto and Joko Widodo are furiously campaigning. On Tuesday, Prabowo was in Yogyakarta. About 1,000 people gathered, most being from Islamic organizations who are declaring their candidate as the “war commander of Muslims.” Muhammad Fuad, a Muslim leader, states, “We want him to protect Islam from the dangers of communists, Shiites and Ahmadis.” One of the other leaders who invited Prabowo to Yogyakarta was Ja’far Umar Thalib, who was involved in bloody conflict between Muslims and Christians in the Malukus, and who has called for jihad on infidels and pluralism.
However, the group was unable to confer the “war commander” title during the meeting. Prabowo’s aids discouraged the title. They stated the reason for the imposed title was because the organizations trust Prabowo.
Pray for the upcoming election on July 9th, that the man who truly stands for democracy and freedom is elected.
