The Islamic Solidarity Games are going on in Indonesia right now. After changing the location several times, it was finally decided to hold them in Palembang, South Sumatra. Some have expressed concern over the Palembang complex, which was used for the Southeast Asian Games in 2011, where many athletes suffered food poisoning and two football fans were crushed to death in a stampede. The games have also faced issues regarding the uniforms, as some countries have non-Muslim women competing who are not being made to wear a hijab, as the committee is going according to the international dress rules. Forty-six Muslim countries are taking part in thirteen different sports.
Pray for the safety of the athletes and the onlookers during the games. Also pray for Christian workers in Palembang as they have unique opportunities to share the Gospel during the Games.
